Gang targets patients and staff at Umbilo medical centre

One of the robbers allegedly bit a nurse as he tried to steal her wedding ring.

FIVE armed suspects robbed patients and nursing staff at gunpoint at a Medican Centre in Umbilo on Thursday morning.

“According to an on-duty security guard, the suspects alighted from a white Polo Vivo and Gold Toyota Yaris at around 5.20am and stormed the centre,”  said KZN police spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele.

Mbele said the gang stole jewellery, eight cellphones and a laptop before fleeing the scene.

Mbele did not comment on reports that one of the robbers bit a nurse as he tried to steal her wedding ring.

A case of robbery was opened at Umbilo police station for investigation.
