Drug dealer to appear in court

The estimated value of drugs found is more than R60 000.

THE Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit as well as police officers from the K9 Currency Unit conducted an intelligence driven operation in Umbilo recently, when they acted on information of drug dealing in the area.

According to Lt Col Thulani Zwane, the police officers proceeded to a house at Hewitt Road where they arrested a suspect found in possession of drugs.

“The house was searched and 148 grams of cocaine powder and 1 000 empty capsules used to package heroin were found. The estimated value of drugs found is more than R60 000. Police also seized R8 360 in cash which is suspected to be the proceeds of crime,” he said.

The arrested suspect was charged with dealing in drugs and was due to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court this week.

“These operations are taking place on a daily basis in KwaZulu-Natal and we urge citizens to report drug dealing activities,” said Zwane. Contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
