Glenwood journalist launches book on parenting

The book shares insights into the Journey of Parenting.

GLENWOOD journalist, columnist and teacher, Usha Naidu, launched her first book this past weekend, at the Durban Book Fair at Mitchell Park.

Naidu’s book, entitled Behind the Scenes, Insights into the Journey of Parenting, covers the many columns she wrote on the topic for a local daily newspaper. Naidu had hoped to stimulate discussion around parenting issues and bring about awareness of the damage that parents can unwittingly do to their children, if they lack the capacity to own up to and introspect on their actions.

The columns sparked robust discussions, not only in the press but in homes and at schools. They were especially well received because many of the scenarios arose from her personal experience as a schoolteacher at local high schools, where she encountered almost every parenting style imaginable and where the effects of irresponsible parenting could be seen in the behavioural changes of the children she encountered in her classroom.

The book is also peppered with stories of her own difficult childhood and upbringing in a time when children were “seen and not heard”. Naidu is a mother of two children, both adults now, but has spent almost three decades being in loco parentis to thousands of children who have passed through her hands as a teacher.

Naidu’s book, is now available from www.hashtagbooks.co.za or from Anivesh Singh on 083 778 1991 or call the author on 083 789 0598 to buy a copy at R150.
