Police investigate Umbilo murders

Umbilo SAPS are investigating cases of murder and attempted murder in Umbilo.

UMBILO SAPS is investigating two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder which occurred over the past week.

According to Capt Pumzile Makaula from Umbilo SAPS, in one case, three people were shot outside the main entrance to Dalton Hostel.She said a report of the incident was received at 5.13pm and on arrival officers found three people, two men and one woman, had been shot. “The woman and one of the men were taken to King Edward Hospital, however the second man, a resident at the hospital, was certified dead by ambulance attendants. The motive for the shooting is unknown,” she said.

Makaula said 21 cartridges and two projectiles were found at the scene. From information gathered at the scene, it was established that two men, who fled in a white Mercedes Benz, were responsible for the shooting, A case of murder and two cases of attempted murder were opened.

In another incident on 20 February, Makaula said at around 11pm Umbilo SAPS received a call that a woman had fallen from the 6th floor of a building in Bonamour Avenue, Bulwer.

“When police arrived the victim identified herself as a resident. She had fractured her right leg and had a stab wound on her left shoulder. She died at the scene. While police were there a knife covered in blood was thrown down from one of the flats. Police immediately went to the sixth floor where the woman had said she reisded and inside the flat found a man lying on the floor. He had been stabbed in the back and under his arm. The room was splattered with blood and the window was wide open,” she said.

Makaula said the man was taken to King Edward Hospital for medical attention and was arrested for further questioning. Police are investigating a case of murder.
