UPDATE: Off-duty metro cop dies in Durban mass shooting

KZN POLICE spokesperson Thembeka Mbele confirmed that the shooting had occurred in the officer's room and said detectives had recovered a firearm.

KZN POLICE spokesperson Thembeka Mbele has confirmed that an off-duty metro police officer was killed in a mass shooting in an apartment in JN Singh (Baker) Street earlier today.

The police officer was one of three people who died in the shooting which left five people injured. One person escaped unscathed.

Mbele confirmed that the shooting had occurred in the officer’s room and said detectives had recovered a firearm.

According to reports neighbours alerted the police when they heard shouting from the apartment followed by gunshots.

Police are still investigating the events leading up to the shooting.
