UPDATE: Nine people shot in Durban ‘bloodbath’

Events leading up to the shooting are still unknown at this stage, but police are investigating.

RESCUE Care paramedic Garrith Jamieson described the scene of the mass shooting in J.N Singh Street, formerly Baker Street in the Durban CBD earlier today as a “bloodbath.”

Jamieson said paramedics had responded to a call to a mass shooting just after 11.30am on Monday.

On arrival they were escorted to the apartment which is located close to the Durban High Court.

“Paramedics were faced with an absolute bloodbath. Nine people had been shot and sustained multiple gunshot wounds,” he said.

Jamieson confirmed that two men and one woman had sustained fatal wounds and were declared deceased.

Earlier reports indicated that four people had been killed, but Jamieson said the remaining six had sustained injuries ranging from moderate to critical.

They were stabilised at the scene and taken to hospital.

Events leading up to the shooting are still unknown at this stage, but police are investigating. The Road has been closed off while police inspect the scene of the crime.
