VIDEO: Memorial service for slain DUT student underway

There is a heavy police presence outside campus.

THERE’S a quiet, sombre mood inside Ritson Hall at Durban’s DUT Steve Biko campus where the memorial service for third year student, Mlungisi Madonsela who was shot and killed in a skirmish between protesting students and campus security last week, is about to get underway.

Berea Mail reporter on the scene, Rudy Nkgadima said the hall is packed to capacity with students who have arrived to pay their respects.

EFF students later interrupted DUT Vice Chancellor Prof Thandwa Mthembu’s speech at the memorial, saying they did not want to be addressed by a ‘murderer’.

Students are now marching to the spot where Madonsela was shot by campus security.
