New investigation into blue container

The officer who was assigned to deal with the removal of the container has been moved to another region.

UMBILO councillor Mmabatho Tembe has once again appealed to the City to remove a large blue container on Hutchinson Road which has been on site since March last year.

According to Tembe, an illegal trader had parked the 12-meter long container on Hutchinson Road which residents had objected to. She said the owner had never started trading from the container, yet it was still parked in the same spot, almost a year later.

Last November Tembe reported that eThekwini Metro Police’s efforts to remove the container were met with failure as the contracted company did not have the capacity to remove such a large container. Another contractor had to be procured but there were still no tangible solutions.

This week, Tembe said she had once again asked the City Manager for feedback on progress.

“I emailed the City Manager twice and he asked Steve Middleton from Metro Police to give me feedback. He has told me that he would investigate the matter, as the officer who was assigned to deal with the removal of the container has been moved to another region. The investigation will therefore have to be started all over again. I am shocked with how Metro Police has dealt with this issue, as a year later there has been no change,” she said, adding that she will keep on it until the problem is solved.
