Knife-wielding woman arrested in Mayville

The woman had threatened residents at a block of flats in Mayville.

A KNIFE-wielding woman who threatened residents at a block of flats in Mayville on Sunday was arrested after Blue Security armed response officers and the police swooped on the scene.

Blue Security’s Andreas Mathios said residents alerted the company’s control centre to the incident at around 2.30pm.

“An armed response officer and the police responded to the scene. The woman had been captured on video camera going from door to door threatening residents with a large knife. She eventually locked herself in the bedroom of an apartment and a friend had to climb through a window above the internal door to get her out. Police arrested the woman for her own safety and took her to the Mayville police station. No injuries were reported,” Mathios said.

In another incident, Mathios said an alleged shoplifter was arrested on the corner of Boscombe Road and Sylvester Ntuli Road on the beachfront after she stole a pair of slops from a shop. The incident occurred at around noon on Sunday.

“The officer responded to the scene, tracked the suspect down and recovered the shoes. The suspect was handed over to Durban Central SAPS,” Mathios said.
