Look-out a hit with tourists

Tourists are stopping at the newly revamped look-out point in Currie Road to view and take photos of the city.

THE newly revamped Currie Road look-out has become an attraction for tourists who are stopping by the bus-load to take photos at this site which has one of the best views of the city.

Responding to the news, Councillor Chris Pappas, said: “I’m so excited to see tourists using the newly done up view stop on Currie Road. The Durban Botanic Gardens were awesome and jumped at my idea to revamp this site and make a trail to the gardens, and it is paying off,” he said.

The grass has been cut, benches have been added at the view site and a new fence has been erected around the sub-station. Pappas said he will suggest a creeper is planted by the fence to cover it and make it more attractive.

Martin Clement from Durban Botanic Gardens said the grassed area on top of the reservoir provided an ideal opportunity to create a green link between the upper part of the Durban Botanic Gardens and Currie Road. He said the top of the reservoir lends itself to early morning yoga and other contemplative activities, and an outdoor gym would supplement those wanting a more active workout, while the trail down towards the upper portion of the Gardens and beyond would satisfy the local trail running and walking community.

“There is still some final work to be done to the side of the Currie Road Reservoir and the completion of the trail, which I hope will be finalised by the end of February,” he said.
