Armed robbers target Glenmore

GLENMORE residents are urged to remain vigilant as armed robbers are actively operating in the area.

On 15 January, Blue Security armed response officers attended three crime scenes in the area, including a home invasion and a hijacking as well as a shooting in Glenwood last week.

A Glenmore resident narrowly escaped an abduction at the hands of hijackers who allegedly tried to bundle him into the boot of his vehicle on Tuesday night.

Blue Security’s Andreas Mathios said the resident had just arrived home and had entered his property in Kennard Rise when he was accosted by the gang of armed hijackers. The incident occurred at around 9.30pm.

“The resident drove his vehicle onto his property and pulled the garage door closed. The suspects allegedly manually opened the garage door and held him up at gunpoint. The gang assaulted him and attempted to force him into the boot of his vehicle but he managed to flee the scene and run to a neighbour’s house. The suspects fled in the resident’s vehicle,” Mathios said.

In a separate incident in Deane Road in Glenmore, armed robbers held up a housesitter while he stood outside the house smoking a cigarette. The incident occurred at around 8pm.

“A gang of around six armed robbers held up the housesitter at gun point and tied him up. They ransacked the property, grabbing remotes, keys, laptops and other valuables before fleeing the scene,” Mathios said.

In a third incident in Glenmore, a Blue Security armed response officer arrested a suspect and recovered stolen goods that were taken from a property in Grundel Road just after 3pm.

“The officer responded to a report from a resident of a suspicious individual who was walking along Grundel Road. The officer arrested the suspect and recovered a stolen hosepipe and screwdrivers that he had in his possession,” Mathios said.
