Glenwood boys excel at chess tourney

The learners took part in the 2018 South African Junior Chess Championships.

TWO Glenwood High School learners represented KZN at the 2018 South African Junior Chess Championships in December in Johannesburg.

Chad Blomeyer (U18A) scored 5.5 points out of seven securing the board prize, which goes to the player that gets the highest score from all players on that specific team position. Kuvam Pillay (U14A) scored four points of seven.

Chad also competed in the National Wildcard Tournament.  He tied second, but his final position was seventh due to a tiebreak. Chad has now qualified to compete in the South African Junior Closed Chess Championships to be held in March. This tournament hosts the best 30 players in the country per age group, who compete for the honours of representing the country.
