Durban sinkhole to be addressed

The cause of the road collapse was a sewer pipe failure.

A LARGE sinkhole in Rick Turner Road has been escalated for attention by ward 33 councillor Mmabatho Tembe.

The road caved away on 30 December, and has been closed to traffic.

“The municipality investigated the matter when it was reported and found the cause of the road collapse was a sewer pipe failure. The area was closed off and handed over to the eThekwini Water Service for attention,” she said.

Tembe said she has been informed that once the department completes the pipe repair and backfills, the Roads Department will undertake final road asphalting as necessary.
