New year’s bundle of joy for mum

A mum at Netcare Parklands Hospital spoke to Berea Mail about her new year baby.

FIRST time mum, Juliette Nicholson, welcomed her daughter into the world at Netcare Parklands Hospital on the first day of the new year.

Speaking to Berea Mail, the doting mum said little Alice Aurora was born at 6.28am weighing in at 4.14kg. She said her obstetrician, Dr Desmond Sanker,  had encouraged her to have a c-section as a result of Alice’s size.

“She was due on 6 January but decided to come earlier! I’m excited that she was born on new year’s day as it is an auspicious start to the year. Aurora means first light, the beginning of the day,” she said, adding that she was over the moon about the birth of her baby girl.

“I’m blessed, I’m so ecstatic! I kept the baby’s gender a surprise and everyone said I was having a boy, so I have no pink clothes and no pink in her bedroom. When she was born, the nurse shouted ‘it’s a girl!’, so I was very surprised. I’m going to have to incorporate some pink into her wardrobe now!” she said.

The Glenwood resident said she was so enjoying being a mum and that little Alice was a hungry girl who liked to feed at night, but was an easy baby.

“My family have been in every day to see her and are excited to have her home,” she said.

While staring adoringly at her little one’s tiny face, Juliette said her hopes for Alice’s future would be that she is a strong and happy woman.
