Body of North Beach drowning victim recovered

eThekwini Municipality has warned beachgoers that swimming hours are strictly from 6am to 6.30pm.

THE body of a 22-year-old man who disappeared beneath the waters off North Beach last week was recovered from the shore break on Saturday by officers of the Durban Search and Rescue Unit.

According to police spokesperson Thembeka Mbele the man was swimming with friends in the early hours of Tuesday morning when he drowned. She said an inquest docket has been opened. eThekwini Municipality has warned beachgoers that swimming hours are strictly from 6am to 6.30pm and no swimming is allowed at night or where lifeguards are not in attendance.

In the meantime the search for a teenage boy believed to have drowned while swimming with friends in Zinkwazi on Sunday afternoon resumed early on Monday morning.
Rescue Care paramedics joined IPSS Medical and Aquatic Rescue and the NSRI on Monday morning as the search for the missing teenager resumed with rescuers using a helicopter, jetskis and boats in their search for the boy.
