Bank treats disadvantaged children

Staff of Al Baraka Bank laid on a day of fun in the sun for children from the Siyabathanda Abantwana Orphans Organisation and the Ashrasiyah Talemaatul Islamia.

WITH the year-end holiday season almost upon us, it is all too easy to become wrapped up with our own after-school plans, holiday trip decisions, beach adventures and shopping expeditions, at the expense of the children with nothing and nobody with whom to share a fun time.

Not so for the staff of Al Baraka Bank, 40 of whom – together with 35 of their own children – recently laid on a day of fun in the sun for 40 children from the Siyabathanda Abantwana Orphans Organisation and the Ashrasiyah Talemaatul Islamia.

The children’s day out at a sports field located within Kingsmead Office Park provided for a great assortment of play activities, gifts, party food and goody-bags, much to the delight of both the youngsters and members of the bank’s staff who revelled in the ability to make their young guests feel special.

Fun day organiser and the bank’s Social Responsibility Officer, Fathima Mohamed, said one of the financial institution’s primary social programmes was to ensure that society’s disadvantaged children were never forgotten.

“Community involvement and active interaction with homes caring for these youngsters provides us all the opportunity to give back, making sure that they don’t feel abandoned and can, instead, share in the joy of the year-end holiday season,” she said.
