#DurbanCourtShooting: Wife and boyfriend reportedly shot, killed by husband

It is alleged that the cause of the shooting stemmed from a civil case.

THE Durban Magistrate’s Court is currently on lock down following a shooting earlier today.

Reports state that two people were killed and a third person was injured. It is alleged that a SAPS member shot his wife and her boyfriend and then turned the gun on himself.

The gunman reportedly managed to slip the gun past security at the front reception desk on Monday afternoon. He then made his way up to O Regional Court where he is believed to have opened fire at those present in court.

Various emergency units are at the scene.

Rescue Care operations director, Garrith Jamieson, said their team was also been dispatched to the court.

“There has been a shooting at the Durban Courts in Somtseu Road. Allegedly three people have been shot with fatalities. Rescue Care Paramedics are on scene,” he said.

Marshall Security spokesperson, Kyle van Reenen said a third person was critically wounded in the shooting. It is alleged that the cause of the shooting stemmed from a civil case.

“Reports from the scene indicate that a male, approximately thirty years of age is alleged to have produced a firearm in the courthouse of the ‘O’ Court, shooting a male and female, before turning the gun on himself. The male and female victims were found to have suffered fatal gunshot wounds and were declared deceased on arrival, whilst the man remains in a critical condition. Further information as to the motive of the shooting and the facts surrounding the incident will form the subject of a South African Police Services investigation,” said a statement from Crisis Medical.
