Con artists target lonely women in KZN

SAPS have issued a money scam warning to women in the province.

POLICE in KwaZulu-Natal are appealing to women to be alert at all times and not fall victims of conmen who target them.

Col Thembeka Mbele from provincial SAPS said cases have been reported where criminals target older, widowed or divorced women, pretending to be attracted to them and wanting to have a relationship with them.

“They then influence them to resign from their employment for better investment opportunities or convince them to consult a ‘traditional doctor’ who assists with multiplying cash using ‘black magic’. Women have fallen victim to such modus operandi,” she said adding, “it is not easy to investigate cases where there has been an agreement of exchange of cash in a romantic relationship,” said Mbele.

She said the police are warning women to be vigilant at all times and not to trust anyone with their life savings.
