Maris Stella learner wins Allan Gray competition

Shriyaa Sooklal will be jetting off to Silicon Valley in April 2019 to meet with world famous start-up entrepreneurs.

MARIS Stella Grade 10 learner, Shriyaa Sooklal, came out tops in the Allan Gray Entrepreneurship Challenge and will be jetting off to Silicon Valley in April 2019 to meet with world famous start-up entrepreneurs.

Maris Stella placed third overall in the category for most Entrepreneurial High School at #AGEC18, and the school’s Mrs van Blerk was recognised as one of the top 10 teachers of the competition.

A total of 614 schools from around South Africa competed in this challenge with over 8 000 learners participating.

The Allan Gray Entrepreneurial Challenge, organised and facilitated by Mr Anthony Selley, is a competition that gamifies learning about entrepreneurship for high school learners in Grades 8 to 12 in South Africa.

The challenges are designed to engage participants to act and think like entrepreneurs and rewards those who finish among the top performers.

Through #AGEC18, participants are exposed to useful mindsets, habits and concepts for entrepreneurs.

These include exposure to exponential technologies such as Blockchain, Digital Biology, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things and 3D Printing. Some challenges include uploading images, some are theoretical and some require action.
