Suspects arrested for murder, assault

Both suspects will appear in court soon while the investigations continue.

DURBAN Central crime prevention officers based at the Broad Street satellite station arrested two men, one for murder and another for assault, last weekend.

According to Const Zanele Khomo from Durban Central SAPS, on 28 October at about 12.30am, a man, identified as Sandile Mthembu, was walking along Joseph Nduli Street when he was approached by a man who held him up at knifepoint.

“An argument led to the suspect stabbing Mthembu, who died on the scene.”

“The suspect was pointed out by a witness and was arrested and charged for murder,” said Khomo.

She said the man was also linked to a case of robbery where a victim was robbed at knifepoint on Saturday, 27 October at around 4.35pm.

In another incident on Saturday, 27 October at around 9am, Broad Street satellite officers arrested a man for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

“It is alleged that a victim was stabbed with scissors during an argument with a person who was later arrested,” she said.

Both suspects will appear in court soon while the investigations continue.
