Durban pastor sentenced for child molestation

A suspect was convicted to 21 years for rape and sexual assault.

DURBAN Central Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) secured a conviction for crimes against children.

In the Durban Magistrates Court, Nestore Kiza Musa was convicted to 21 years imprisonment for cases of rape and sexual assault, receiving 18 years for rape, and three years for sexual assault, committed during 2015. The accused will serve these years concurrently.

“It is alleged by seven victims between the ages of five and 10 years that in 2015 the accused was known as a pastor in the St Andrews area in Durban. He was molesting children and attracting them by buying sweets for them before raping them. A case was reported to Durban Central on 30 May 2015 and FCS took over the investigation which lead to more victims of the accused coming forward,” said Const Zanele Khomo from Durban Central.

The accused made his first court appearance on 1 April 2015 and bail was opposed. He then made several court appearances until he was sentenced and convicted by the court on 18 October. Sgt Vumani Charles Dube led the investigation.

“This will send a good message to criminals out there who are thinking of doing the same thing to vulnerable children,” said Khomo.
