Container stays put despite objections

The abandoned container in Hutchinson Road, Umbilo, is yet to be removed.

UMBILO councillor Mmabatho Tembe has appealed to the city to remove a container on Hutchinson Road which has been there since March.

Tembe, said an illegal trader had parked a 12-meter long container on Hutchinson Road which residents had objected to. She said the owner had never started trading from the container, yet it was still parked in the same spot.

“EThekwini Metro Police’s efforts to remove the container were met with failure as the contracted company did not have the capacity to remove such a large container. Another contractor has to be procured but there are still no tangible solutions. The call herein is for the City to put a close to the matter and have the container removed,” said Tembe.

She said the DA was all for supporting local business and for the development of unemployed youth, but all this must be done within the confines of the law.

“In efforts to building ‘one South Africa for all,’ it’s important for organs of state to rise to the occasion and put the interests of the people first. We will continue to apply pressure to the City’s Metro Police and ensure that the container is removed, soonest,” said Tembe.
