Disaster management teams on high alert in wake of severe storm warning

Severe thunderstorms, gale force winds and high seas have been forecast.

DURBAN residents are warned of severe thunderstorms and high winds which are expected to hit the city.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) said wind speeds of up to 65kmph can be expected.  eThekwini Municipality Disaster Management teams are on standby to respond to any disaster that may occur due to the severe thunderstorms and rough seas forecast.

Residents are urged to exercise extra caution more especially in the event of being caught outdoors.
EThekwini City Manager, Sipho Nzuza said the municipality was not taking any chances and every warning from the SAWS was taken seriously.
“Our disaster management teams are well equipped to deal with any disaster within the city. We need our communities to work with us by heeding our warnings at all times. We are now right in the middle of the summer season and all of us are fully aware how prone our city is to disasters emanating from bad weather at this time of the year.”
