Berea B&Bs targeted by criminals

Berea SAPS is urging B&B owners to be vigilant.

BEREA SAPS is warning Bed and Breakfast establishments in the area to be aware of criminals who are currently targeting these businesses.

Capt Poobalan Naidoo, communications officer at Berea SAPS said: “It has come to our attention that foreigners are booking into these places and are watching tourists that stay there. When the tourists go out, their rooms are broken into and their belongings and cash are stolen.”

He said property such as laptops and foreign currency is stolen.

“Owners of B&Bs need to advise their patrons to safeguard their belongings and cash at all times. They can even arrange a safe for their patrons to keep their cash in,” he said.

Naidoo urged owners to be alert for all suspicious people that use their facility and to report them to the police.
