Acting vice-chancellor appointed

This appointment follows the resignation of Dr Albert van Jaarsveld.

THE Council of the University of KwaZulu-Natal has announced the appointment of Professor Nana Poku as the university’s acting Vice-Chancellor and Principal with effect from 1 October.

This follows the resignation of Dr Albert van Jaarsveld who takes on a new role of Director General and CEO of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IISA) in Austria.

Poku is currently the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and College Head of Law and Management Studies at the university, and his acting appointment will continue until the process of appointing a new Vice-Chancellor and Principal is concluded.

Rev Dr Vukile Mehana, chair of Council at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, said the university had embarked on a recruitment process to fill this important position.

“On behalf of Council, I thank Professor Poku for stepping into this vital role and I trust that the University Community and all stakeholders will afford him the necessary cooperation and support. The Council also expresses appreciation to Dr van Jaarsveld for his leadership during his tenure, and welcomes Professor Poku to this important responsibility,” he said.
