Prof blames education for enforcing racist thinking

“Of course racism is stupid because racism is based on the idea that some racial groups are superior to others."

SPEAKING at the seminar to discuss race relations between Black and Indian communities in Durban last week, Professor Ashwin Desai,  who is very vocal about the relationship between Indians and Africans,  said the kinds of education received at Universities was  geared towards enforcing colonial racist forms of thinking.

“Of course racism is stupid because racism is based on the idea that some racial groups are superior to others. Now that has been discounted, so rubbished and is so clearly untrue that to be racist is to be stupid. However Africans and Indians by the vast majority must be racist because the kinds of education they receive especially at University, render us stupid and illiterate,” he said.

Former bodyguard for Nelson Mandela, Sam Prakash, who was part of those attending the dialogue told those present, “ Indians are the most racist people in the world and you must accept that you will never change them.”

“In the Indian community you have about seven different classes, they practice racism among themselves and whether that overlaps into Africans that’s another story. The class system is something that is destroying South Africa. Those Indians that exploit blacks are not Indians that come from the township, those that are practicing this are funders of certain political parties.”

“Black people in this province …[must] wake up and remove those Indians because they are exploiting not only you but they  also Indians,” concluded Prakash.
