Marisa Da Silva gave a talk on the five steps she took that saw her scale her family business five times.

DURBAN Entrepreneurs Club (DEC) gathered at the Durban Country Club for its monthly meeting to network and listen to dynamic young business woman Marisa Da Silva from Infanta Foods talk on the five steps she took that saw her scale her family business five times.

Founder of the DEC, Grant Gavin, said that having speakers like Marisa is invaluable adding that, “everything around us is changing, and to keep abreast with how best to cope with change, advice from people like Marisa who has helped turn her families business around in difficult times can be a game changer for business owners.”

Marisa advised that business coaching programmes taught her immeasurable skills and one of the most important lessons was that there are always ways to cut back on costs.

“No matter what business you are in, if you want growth you need to look at every expense. Cut cut and grow should be the mantra,” she explained and added that a business was like a ship and if you moved forward without plugging the holes that are draining your cash, the ship will eventually sink.

Marisa concluded her talk by saying that the number one mistake that all entrepreneurs make is that they try to work in all the different departments. “Don’t work in your business. Work on your business.”
