Sydenham clean up

The community, DSW staff and ward committee members cleaned up Butcher Road park on Heritage Day.

AS part of ward 31’s ongoing Heritage Month clean up campaign, the community, DSW staff and some ward committee members gathered in Butcher Road park on 24 September.

The park lies at the centre of the Sydenham community and has a long history of being a place where adults and children gather.

“Our clean up also incorporated a drive around the Sydenham and Asherville area doing an awareness campaign.”

“If we all play our part and do what is required there we will see a big difference in our communities,” said Nicky Goss, who is also the ward committee member for Cleansing and Solid Waste.

Councillor Chris Pappas said: “We must put our rubbish out on the correct day and put it in the right colour bag. Keep your verge clean and pick up any papers you see lying around. The power to see a difference in our communities lies with each of us.”

Goss also asked parents to educate their children about littering.

“Much of what we clean up are items that children have thrown on the ground like chip packets, sweet packets and straws. Please teach your child the value of a clean environment.”

A community clean-up event was also held at Berea Park in Musgrave on Saturday, 15 September to commemorate annual International Cleanup Day.
