Cops seek community assistance after Umbilo robberies

Umbilo SAPS are investigating two robbery cases.

UMBILO SAPS is looking for information regarding two robberies which took place in Umbilo last week.

Capt Pumzile Makaula from Umbilo SAPS said on 6 September a business in Umbilo Road was broken into at around 1pm.

“Three men pointed a firearm at a staff member and demanded cash. They got away with an undisclosed amount of money. A case of business robbery was opened,” she said.

In a separate case on 10 September, Makaula said a man was collecting money from a shop in Davenport Centre at around 10am. As he got into his car in Devonshire Road he was approached by a man who grabbed the bag out of his hand.

“Inside the bag was an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect got away in a white VW Polo. There were two other men in the getaway car. Police have opened a case of robbery,” said Makaula.

Hijacked car recovered

A MAN’S car was recovered in Lamontville after he was hijacked in Lathan Gardens Road, Umbilo, on 8 September.

Makaula said the man had arrived home at around 8pm and had climbed out his car to close the gate.

“He was approached by four armed men who demanded his car keys. They assaulted him and grabbed his wedding ring. They got into his car, a silver Audi, and fled the scene. The vehicle was recovered in Lamontville,” she said.
