Diakonia keeps doors open despite financial crisis

"Our social justice work in the future will be scaled down."

DESPITE facing a financial crisis, the Diakonia Council of Churches says it will continue working towards a just society as it has done for more than 40 years.

According to the organisation, the financial crisis is a result of key overseas funding sources changing their funding priorities.

After a heartfelt appeal for help from Executive Director of the organisation, Nomabelu Mvambo-Dandala much-needed funding was raised that kept the organisation’s doors open.

“The financial crisis has undeniably affected our staff and operations with a difficult restructuring process. Our social justice work in the future will be scaled down until we completely overcome the crisis,” he said.

Mvambo-Dandala said the organisation was grateful to the public, member churches and friends from all corners of South Africa and the globe for their prayers and support. “While we have weathered this heavy storm, we are working on alternate means of earning income to sustain our much-needed social justice work.”
