Brunch set to shine light on diabetes
There are 10 000 newly diagnosed diabetics every month in South Africa.
DIABETES South Africa and Key Events will host a fundraising brunch at Durban Country Club on Wednesday, 26 September from 9am to 11.30am.
Morningside resident, Louise Molyneaux is encouraging people to buy tickets for this good cause.
As one of the speakers at the event, she will address the challenges facing diabetics in SA.
Guest speakers include Dr Joanna Skelton, endocrinologist at Gateway Private Hospital, and Tas Chetty, a biokineticist, who will speak on lifestyle management for diabetes patients.
“I was diagnosed 26 years ago and I only knew one other diabetic at the time, but now it is so common.”
“I was shocked to discover that there are 10 000 newly diagnosed diabetics every month in South Africa. It is a pandemic in the world. Far more people are dying from diabetic complications than cancer or AIDS,” reflects Louise.

Louise said branches of Diabetes SA are closing around the country as there’s no funding and emphasises, “the scary part is that people diagnosed with the diabetes are not getting the correct information. We encourage people to buy tickets to this fundraiser so money can be generated for this organisation to function.”
Tickets are R350 and the dress code is yellow and blue.
