Umbilo SAPS are investigating a case of hijacking and a home invasion this week.

Police investigate hijacking

UMBILO SAPS is investigating a case of hijacking after two men held up a security guard patrolling in Magwaza Maphalala Road on 2 September.

According to Capt Pumzile Makaula from Umbilo SAPS the man was approached by the men who took his firearm and got into the guard’s vehicle.

“The car was driven down Magwaza Maphalala Road and a patrol vehicle was alerted. They found the vehicle abandoned along Canada Road. Police are investigating a case of car hijacking,” said Makaula.

Family held up in home

IN another incident on Friday, 31 August at around 7.45pm, five men broke into a house on Oliver Lea Road.

“According to the family they were seated in the lounge when they heard a loud bang on the door. The men forced the door open, pointed firearms at the family and instructed them to lie down. They got away with a TV, laptop, cellphones a camera and a computer,” said Makaula.

She said the men fled the scene in a Ford Focus with registration number ND 621 737.

“The husband gave chase and the suspects fired a shot at him and got away. The getaway vehicle was found abandoned in D section Umlazi on 1 September,” she said.
