Baby born in bakkie

After a short period little Sibusisiwe Nkazimulo Bhengu was welcomed into the world to big smiles from mum and dad.

RESPONDING to cries for help, Netcare 911 medics together with staff at St Augustine’s Hospital, went to the aid of a distressed dad, Philani Bhengu and his wife, Nonthuthzelo, who was in the process of delivering their baby in the back of the couple’s bakkie which was parked outside the hospital ambulance base parking lot on Sunday.

Shawn Herbst from Netcare 911 reported that Mr Bhengu, who was not familiar with the area, had panicked and parked on the side of the hospital and called for help

“Staff heard sounds of someone calling for help in the parking lot and found Mrs Bhengu in the back of the bakkie in severe pain and in the process of delivering her baby.

While medic, Preshan Harrilal, reassured both the mother and father, medics fetched their medical equipment in preparation for the delivery.

“After a short period little Sibusisiwe Nkazimulo Bhengu was welcomed into the world to big smiles from mum and dad,” said Herbst.

The mother and baby were transported to the closest emergency department where they were assessed by a doctor.
