Empowering workshop for young women

Gender-based violence, confidence building, security and self-defence as well as CV structuring and interview skills were discussed.

A WORKSHOP aimed at empowering young women between the ages of 18 and 23, was held at Stella Sports Club on Saturday.

The event was spearheaded by ward 33 councillor, Mmabatho Tembe, with assistance from councillors Sharmaine Sewshanker and Martin Meyer.

“We tackled topics such as gender-based violence, confidence building, security and self-defence as well as teaching skills such as CV structuring and interview skills,” said Tembe.

Tinashe Chitsa from the Cancer Association of South Africa was also present to speak to the attendees about women’s cancers, health and prevention.

“This is the first of hopefully many more workshops for women in the community. I hope to diversify in relation to ages at future workshops. I thank all sponsors for making this workshop possible,” said Tembe.
