A MOTHER of a Livingstone Primary School learner was left traumatised after she was hijacked this morning, 24 August, while dropping her son off at school.
Const Zanele Khomo from Durban Central SAPS confirmed that the woman was approached by two men while she was parked at the intersection of Lilian Ngoyi (Windermere) and Livingstone Roads, Morningside, at around 7.15am.
“One of the men pointed a handgun at the women and the men took possession of her Toyota Rav 4 vehicle. In the process three shots were fired in the air. The victims were unharmed,” she said.
Khomo said the men arrived in a black BMW and fled the scene in both vehicles along Lilian Ngoyi Road. She said the woman opened a case at Durban Central SAPS.

Mum of two children at the school, Alison Johnston, who was dropping her children off at school at the time of the hijacking, said the incident happened very quickly.
“I had pulled into a parking outside the school and after my children got out of the car I saw a man running down the road saying there had been gunshots fired. After this I heard gunshots and called my children t0 get back into the car. I saw the woman and her son on the corner, the boy’s legs were bleeding and they were both hysterical. The principal came out and took them into the school. I called emergency services and the police to come to the scene,” she said.
Johnston said she and many other parents felt the traffic congestion outside the school in the morning was a problem and that the school needed to do something to assist parents feel less fearful in light of this incident.
The school has confirmed the incident but the principal would not comment further.
