Opportunity knocks for design creatives

THE Number One Mageu Art and Soul Competition is a search for South Africa’s freshest and most exciting design talent.

The competition is looking for artists to create an ultra-original design for the Number One Mageu banana food drink packaging. The winner will get R10 000 and have their design made into a limited edition pack.

“We know that there is a wealth of creative talent out there in our country. We see it every day online. Our Number One social community often creates art inspired by the brand and so we decided to give them an opportunity to share their skills and talents on a national scale,” said Brand Manager Aamina Shaik.

The competition is a chance for designers and illustrators to share their unique design flava with the country. The designs should be a celebration of our culture, our heritage and our people.

As well as the main competition which is open to all designers and illustrators from South Africa, there is also a student competition in collaboration with Durban University of Technology (DUT). The winner of this competition will receive an iPad and a three-day internship at Durban creative agency The Hardy Boys, where they will have the chance to work as part of the Number One Mageu design team.

The top designs will be decided by a panel of judges, taking place via Instagram and the final designs will be judged by the public.

The winners of both competitions will be announced at an exhibition at RCL Foods head office in Durban on Thursday 30 August.
