PAPPI marches through Durban against high fuel prices

PAPPI protesters marched through the Durban CBD against the record high fuel prices.

“Today we are having a funeral against high fuel prices,” said Visvin Reddy, national convenor of People Against Petrol and Paraffin Price Increases (PAPPPI) as the organisation took to the Durban streets protesting against the high fuel prices earlier today.

PAPPPI protesters said they did not want the price of fuel to continue increasing.

Reddy said it was not fair that people were being taxed the way they are in light of fuel prices having spiked to record heights (nearly R16 per litre), and the additional burden of a one per cent VAT increase.

“We fought for a free South Africa. We fought for the end of oppression. Today we have political power, but we have no economic power. Our people are still suffering because of high fuel prices,” he said.
