AHMED Al-Kadi Private Hospital (AAKPH) teamed up with the Islamic Medical Association of SA (IMASA), Baytul Nur Trust to give the “gift of sight” to four financially challenged pre-selected women in honour of Women’s Month.
The hospital also extended its gesture to four financially challenged men. The operations were performed at the hospital in Mayville on Saturday, 4 August, with the experienced skills of specialist ophthalmologist Dr M Khan as well as the nursing team.
“While we may be helping give the gift of sight, the true gift is being a part of this special initiative with Ahmed Al-Kadi Private Hospital and the Islamic Medical Association of South Africa. These pre-selected women have been on the public sector waiting list for quite some time and we feel privileged to be able to step in and assist in giving the gift of sight which many take for granted,” said hospital manager, Mr Ahmed Docrat.
Mrs Fazila Mustapha one of the beneficiaries of the cataract camp said: “It has been a wonderful experience. The hospital staff have really been kind and taken such good care of us all. Even the IMA people are so kind. God bless them.”
“I found out I needed a cataract over a year ago and I have been waiting. I am so happy to have come here for this operation. Now I can see better and take better care of my late daughter’s two children. Thank you to all for helping me,” said Mrs Hawa Ebrahim who was appreciative of the opportunity.

Mr Shahaadat Khan has been on the public health sector’s waiting list for eight years. He was exceptionally grateful to the IMASA and to AAKPH for receiving this treatment. “The staff, the doctors and the ladies from AAKPH and IMASA are friendly and caring,” he said.
“After three successful cataract camps, IMASA, Baytul Nur Trust is once again honoured to partner with AAKPH and the various service providers who are all volunteering their time to bring to fruition this important project. It’s a cliché that we can’t help everyone but each of us can play a role in helping our fellow citizens to lead a better quality of life and through our recurrent efforts and steps we can make a huge difference to the lives of people who otherwise would have no hope, ”said IMASA-DBN branch cataract campaign coordinator, Mrs Yasiera Mahomed Suliman.
