PRAYERS and messages of support have flooded social media as fans of local socialite Sbahle Mpisane, also known as Durban’s fitness bunny, reacted to the news that she was critically injured when her car left the road and crashed into a tree on Margaret Mncade (Victoria Embankment) Road before bursting into flames in the early hours of Thursday morning.
According to Garrith Jamieson of Rescue Care , 25-year-old Mpisane was entrapped in the wreckage and the jaws of life were used to free her.
“She was placed on a manual ventilator before being extricated from the wreckage,” he said, adding that she was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
On Friday morning, reports indicated that Mpisane had survived the night in ICU at Netcare St Augustine’s Hospital and was still critical and clinging to life.
Mpisane’s boyfriend, Bafana Bafana goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune, took to social media to thank fans for the messages of support for Mpisane.
Police spokesperson colonel Thembeka Mbele confirmed that the cause of the crash is being investigated and that case of reckless and negligent driving had been opened at Duran Central Police Station.
