Innovate Durban rolls out recruitment for the Maritime Youth Innovation Challenge 2018.

INNOVATE Durban NPC in partnership with Transnet and the eThekwini Maritime Cluster will roll out recruitment activities for the youth of Durban to take part in the Maritime Youth Innovation Challenge (MYIC) 2018.

The MYIC 2018, funded by eThekwini Municipality and strategic partners, will be rolled out in the eThekwini region, and entrepreneurs shortlisted will receive business skills training, mentorship and business support services.

The programme is open to youth between the ages of 18 and 35 who have innovative ideas or businesses which are no more than two years in operation and trading. These ideas must solve challenges in the maritime sectors in scopes of infrastructure, logistics and transport, capacity and environment. Application forms to enter the MYIC will be made available on the Innovate Durban website (www.innovate.durban/apply).

Following the application process, 100 eligible youth from eThekwini will be invited to a series of bootcamps until October. The bootcamps will impart knowledge on leading business skills, templates and tools of trade in order to strengthen their products or services.

The MYIC 2018 programme was launched in 8 June in a bid to solve maritime-related challenges faced by eThekwini Maritime Cluster and Transnet.

The MYIC aims to identify 10 young entrepreneurs with the intention to provide high level mentorship and business development support for a period of six months to develop their solutions.
