Durban Chamber announces new CEO

Palesa Phili replaces outgoing CEO, Dumile Cele.

THE Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry has announced the appointment of the new Chamber Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Palesa Phili, effective from 1 July.

Palesa replaces outgoing CEO, Dumile Cele, and her core function will be to drive and implement the strategic objectives of the Durban Chamber.

Durban Chamber president, Musa Makhunga, congratulated Palesa on her appointment.

“I believe that Palesa’s appointment will reinforce the Chamber’s position as a future-focused organisation that adds value to our members and champions economic prosperity and sustainability in the region,” he said.

Palesa has over 20 year’s experience in the ICT and telecommunications sector working for leading multinational companies within the ICT sector. She has 10 years’ experience in executive positions within the sector with added experience in board-level positions within the manufacturing and incubation sectors.

Palesa said she was excited at the prospect of building upon the progress the Durban Chamber has made in eThekwini and looked forward to working alongside the talented team and the board of directors to achieve the Chamber’s strategic goals of boosting investment and creating a competitive business environment.

“I am passionate about Durban and in fostering wealth creation through securing more investment and sustainable economic growth in the region as the increased economic activity will lead to meaningful social change and a more sustainable financial future for the region,” said Phili.
