School welcomes speed calming measures

The speed bumps will help stop motorists from speeding outside the school in Bartle Road.

NEWLY erected speed bumps outside Penzance Primary School in Bartle Road will go a long way in curbing speeding in the road, says the school HOD.

John Legemaate said he was ecstatic to see workers outside the school last week installing the speed bumps, which have been in the pipeline for the past year.

“I started communicating with former ward councillor Nicole Graham many years ago regarding having speed bumps outside the front of the school, and then contacted Councillor Mmabatho Tembe a year ago about this request. Councillor Tembe submitted the request which was approved in the budget. I am very grateful for their efforts in getting the ball rolling and for making this a reality,” he said.

He said the speed bumps would help with not only the safety of the school’s children, but also to stop motorists from speeding outside the school in Bartle Road.

“We always have accidents at the intersection at Rick Turner Road because motorists speed in Bartle Road. Now they won’t be able to speed up to go through the robots at the intersection as they will have to slow down to go over the speed bumps,” he said.
