A broken, uneven pavement outside a business in Clark Road poses a risk to pedestrians and customers, some of whom have fallen as a result of the state of the pavement.
Gary Nel from Talking Heads, said an elderly woman had tripped and fallen on the pavement when she was going to her car recently and was shaken up by the fall. He said that this was not the first time this had happened.
“We have a lot of clients who are pensioners. For an elderly woman, a fall like this really knocks them for a six,” he said, adding that although municipal rates were on the rise, infrastructure was not maintained.
Desiree Ford, who has been at the premises for 13 years, said the pavement had been in a terrible condition for a while and had just deteriorated.

“A couple of our clients have fallen. One woman hurt herself really badly and ended up with a black eye. The pavement has never been fixed or maintained since I have been at this property. It is really dangerous and something needs to be done. We should be getting more services while we are paying higher rates,” she said.
Responding to queries, ward councillor Mmabatho Tembe said it was terrible that pavements were left in this state.
“I will report it and have the municipality deal with it,” she said. She urged residents to report infrastructure issues to eservices@durban.gov.za.
No response from eThekwini Municipality had been received at the time of going to print.
