THE University of KwaZulu-Natal announced the resignation of its Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Dr Albert van Jaarsveld last week.
Dr van Jaarsveld leaves the University at the end of September to head up the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IISA) in Australia as Director General and CEO as from 1 October.
Dr van Jaarsveld assumed duty as UKZN Vice-Chancellor and Principal on 2 February 2015. Prior to this, he was Chief Executive Officer of the National Research Foundation. His career in research, teaching and leadership include academic and management positions at the universities of Pretoria and Stellenbosch and Dartmouth College, USA.

“It is with deep regret and sadness that we announce Dr van Jaarsveld’s resignation. During his tenure at UKZN, Dr van Jaarsveld made significant contribution towards the initiation of a number of strategic and innovative projects, safeguarding the university’s research and teaching and learning enterprise, ensuring that the public image of the university remains intact and that it remains productive and sustainable. Council and the UKZN community is grateful for all contributions made by Dr van Jaarsveld in ensuring that the university remains in good standing. We wish him well in all his future endeavours,” said Rev Dr Vukile Mehana, Chair of Council at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
To ensure the continued stability of the university, the university will expedite the process of appointing a successor.
