Cops uncover Berea drug lab

The provincial drug team arrested a man for running a drug lab in Berea.

PROVINCIAL Drug Unit members arrested a 36-year-old suspect who was found in possession of heroin on Wednesday.

Officers received a tip-off and acted on information about drugs from Tanzania that were about to be mixed, packaged and distributed and a team went to a flat at Canterbury Road, Berea, at around 5.45pm where they arrested the man.

“The heroin was found in a packet as well as paracetamol tablets in a jar. The drugs were about to be mixed and packaged to Durban areas. The total value of the recovered drugs is R600 000 but once mixed the value would be R2 million,” said Captain Nqobile Gwala.

She said further a investigation was conducted and it was established that the flat was rented to be used as a drug lab to manufacture drugs.

The suspect will appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on charges of manufacturing and dealing in drugs.
