Things are blooming at flower kiosk

Lall's Fresh Flowers have come to the rescue to supply flowers to MothFlora.

MOTHFLORA, a fundraising initiative which has been in operation at Stellawood Cemetery selling flowers at reasonable prices since 1965, has a new supplier.

An appeal went out in January for help, after the supplier who had helped supply flowers for the initiative since it opened 52 years ago, decided to retire and was cutting down on deliveries.

Louisa Hitchcock, one of the residents from MOTH Cottages involved in the initiative, said Lall’s Fresh Flowers, came forward to assist, and the first delivery was made on 2 June.

“He has manned a stall opposite the City Hall for more years than he cares to remember and we were very fortunate that he made contact with us as we were starting to despair. We are all very excited that the years ahead look very bright for MothFlora,” she said.

MothFlora has in the past 18 years ploughed hundreds of thousands of Rands back into charity through the sale of flowers. It supplies flowers for all occasions, including weddings, birthdays, the birth of new babies, anniversaries and for people to place on graves at the cemetery. It operates at the main entrance to Stellawood Cemetery on weekends and public holidays that fall on a Friday or Monday.
