Golden dance duo to represent SA

A dance duo is raising funds to enable them to represent SA at the World Champs.

TAYLA Morrow and Koketso Mere recently returned from competing at the South African Championship of Performing Arts (SACOPA), where they represented KZN in singing, dancing and acting.

SACOPA hosts this Performing Arts National event, which is represented by nine of South Africa’s provinces, as well as Lesotho and Namibia. A total of 3 000 competitors took part in the event which saw Tayla, a Marist Stella learner, come home with 12 gold medals across acting and dancing categories, and Koketso, a Westville Boys’ High pupil, return with 11 gold medals for singing and dancing. As a duet, named Trendsetters, they achieved six out of six gold medals.

Koketso also won the Senior Grand Champion Award for his Broadway vocal performance, achieving the highest score across all categories of vocal, instrument, dance, modelling and acting in the 16-24 year age category.

Due to their phenomenal achievements, they have qualified for the South African Performing Arts Squad, which is travelling to Los Angeles in July to Compete in the World Championships of Performing arts, more commonly known as the ‘Olympics’ of Performing Arts.

As there is no government funding for this team all entry fees, flights and accommodation costs are to be covered by the contestants. The entry fees alone amount to over R65 000 for this pair to compete.

If you are able to help get this dynamic duo to LA, a GoGetFunding account that has been set up https://gogetfunding.com/world-dance-championships-in-la/ (or https://bit.ly/2sKAWm0). Any support would be greatly appreciated.
