SAPS seeks assistance

Durban Central Detectives appeal for information in a case of theft by false pretences they are investigating.

DURBAN Central Detective Unit is appealing to the community to help in its investigation into a case of theft by false pretences.

According to Const Zanele Khomo from Durban Central SAPS, it is alleged that on 16 April at about 3.15pm a woman received a phone call regarding a job opportunity. An arrangement was made for her to meet the potential employer.

“On 18 April at about 11am, the woman went to a hospital where she was promised work as a data capturer, accompanied by the man who introduced himself to her as Sydney Mabawa. The man took the woman’s laptop and cellphone and promised her that the hospital information technology people were working to download software on the laptop and cellphone. After some few minutes the woman realised he was not coming back to her,” said Khomo.

The incident was reported to security who then viewed cameras. The man was seen exiting the hospital using a back entrance.

“Police believe the man they have an identikit of can be of assistance in solving the case,” she said.
