The ocean deserves its own day

Durban is celebrating World Oceans Day 2018.

WORLD Oceans Day will be celebrated globally on Friday, 8 June with this year’s theme focussing on the prevention of plastic pollution and encouraging solutions for a healthy ocean.

KZNSA Gallery is one of the participating venues for ISEA2018, the 24th International Symposium on Electronic Art, the first ISEA to be held in the African sub-continent which comes to various venues Durban from 23 to 30 June. One of the major areas of focus for ISEA2018 is the public social artistic commentary on a myriad of environmental issues, with interventions, research, film screenings and exhibitions with an interesting environmental, conservation, green and eco theme.

Lauren Laing from Wildtrust is part of the team that will be putting on a documentary series called ‘Our Oceans’ at the Nature, Environment and Wildlife Filmmakers Congress (NEWF), a festival of films and documentaries taking place at Durban Botanic Gardens from 16 to 18 July. The event is designed to kick-start the next generation of nature, environment, wildlife and adventure filmmakers.
