Armed men hold up restaurant staff

The restaurant manager was forced to open the safe.

UMBILO Police are investigating an armed robbery which took place at a restaurant in Helen Joseph Road on Monday evening.

According to KZN police spokesman, Captain Nqobile Gwala, the manager of the Keys on Davenport restaurant was pistolwhipped during the hold up which occurred while the restaurant was closed for business.

“Three men arrived in a VW Polo and held up the security guard outside the premises. The men forced the guard to open the door to the restaurant. They made the staff lay on the floor and threatened to kill them if they moved,” she said.

The manager was forced into his office and instructed to open the safe. Gwala said the men took cash and a laptop and fled in their getaway vehicle.
